In B.C not very long ago there were a lot of residential schools. Residential schools are where it was said " Kill the Indian in the child". Children had to change their identities, names and they could not speak their own language. It was an awefull place where children dreaded to go
Tell me about aboriginal culture
Aboriginal culture is a free life where you don't kill animals just for fun you only kill animals when you need to eat and you always take everything and make something out of the skin. If you don't harm the animals they won't harm you. Never betray your family and be one with the wind.
What were residential schools
Children had to change their identities, names and they could not speak their own language. Children did not go home until Christmas and summer break. they were whipped if they did something bad and the girls and boys were split up. They could not eat until after 5:00 and they were never really appreciated. The school was usually in a church. Kids were abused awfully and they were never treated fairly. People tried to hang themselves and commit suicide. Luckily, the last residential school closed in 1996.
what happened to families
Families were split apart for a very long time. They only saw each other during Christmas and summer break. It was always a dreaded time for the families, knowing that their child might come back one day and forget how to speak Indian.
Whose land are we on
B.C was renamed by the Coast Salish people. That's whose land we're on.
